a new Amazon Web Services office in Johannesburg to support growing demand

(Ecofin Agency) – South Africa is one of the main cloud markets on the African continent. The Rainbow Nation is home to the operations and infrastructure of the largest companies in the sector. These include Microsoft, Oracle, Huawei, Acronis, and of course Amazon.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the subsidiary of the American group Amazon specializing in cloud computing, has just opened a new office in Johannesburg, South Africa. Through this new physical presence, the company wants to meet growing customer demand and continue its investment in the Rainbow Nation.

According to the group, the Johannesburg office will provide a range of services to organizations of all sizes, including start-ups, enterprises and public sector agencies, to help them innovate, reduce information technology costs and accelerate cloud migrations.

Cloud adoption is accelerating in Africa, driven by the digital transformation needs of businesses and governments on the continent. South Africa remains one of the continent’s top cloud markets, attracting investment from the biggest companies in the industry. According to Research and Markets’ “Africa Data Center Market – Industry Outlook & Forecast 2022-2027” report, cloud adoption in South Africa is expected to grow by 25% annually and generate up to $1.5 billion in revenue. 2024.

Justifying the choice of location for the new office, Chris Erasmus, Country Manager for South Africa at AWS, said, “Johannesburg offers an incredible talent pool of highly skilled and creative people. It is home to many notable South African companies at the forefront of digital innovation, as well as fast-growing start-ups“.
