The student who was arrested on Wednesday 9 November has been released but police have banned him from carrying eggs in public in the future.

The student arrested on Wednesday (November 9th) in Britain for throwing eggs at King Charles III has been released, but police have banned him from bringing any in public in the future, the press reported on Thursday (November 10th). Patrick Thelwell, 23, was arrested by the police on Wednesday morning after the incident in the streets of York in northern England, where the king was traveling with his wife Camilla.

As the king and his wife shook hands, cheered by the British who came to greet them, the young environmental activist threw several eggs at Charles, narrowly missing him.

Speaking to The Mirror, Mr. Thelwell that he remained in custody until 22:00 and was released on the condition that he no longer comes near the king or carries any more eggs in public. He can still buy eggs when he goes shopping, he tells the newspaper. Patrick Thelwell is a former candidate for the Green Party and also an activist in the environmental group Extinction Rebellion.

At the time of the incident, he had voiced his anti-monarchist views, shouting that Britain “was built with the blood of slaves“. According to him, the spectators who came to cheer the king were furious with him and “howled with rage“.

People pulled my hair out, they spat on me“, he told the Mirror, claiming to have received death threats. Charles III, 73, who will be crowned in May eight months after taking the throne, is less popular than his late mother, adored by Britons throughout her 70- year-long reign, but he has experienced a resurgence in popularity since becoming king.
