Amazon Prime Video adds the Senegalese series “Mistress of a married man” to its platform

(Ecofin Agency) – Since the installation of Netflix on the African continent, the streaming service seems to focus on collaborations with producers from the English-speaking part of the continent. Its competitor, Amazon Prime Video, seems to want to take advantage of this strategy to strengthen its presence in French-speaking Africa.

The Senegalese series “Mistress of a gift man” and “Karma” will soon be available on Amazon Prime Video. The information was revealed on October 31 by Marodi TV, producer of the two series, which has entered into an agreement with the streaming platform.

“We are proud to announce that the series Mistress of a Married Man and Karma will be available on Amazon Prime Video. This is a first for a Senegalese production house. The arrival of Senegalese series in a global streaming major like Amazon Prime video is an important step because it will enable our stories to be discovered by African audiences, especially English-speaking people”, rejoiced Marodi TV on Twitter.

Both series have been successful in French-speaking Africa, especially during the “Mistress of a married man” pandemic. Amazon Prime Video, which moved to Nigeria in August, could give the series interesting exposure in English-speaking markets on the continent and internationally.

The deal also allows Amazon Prime Video to attack the blind spot of its competitor Netflix: French-speaking Africa. Very present in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, Netflix has so far hardly collaborated with production houses in French-speaking Africa. “There are only a few countries that benefit from their investments: South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. There is not much left for the rest of the continent”lamented, in 2021, Alain Modot, head of the distributor of African audiovisual content DIFFA.
