Amazon Prime Video signs production deal with director Jade Osiberu

(Ecofin Agency) – After launching its activities in Nigeria, Amazon Prime Video intends to take the place of its competitor, Netflix in the country. To achieve this, the video on demand service wants to use the strategy that has worked for the competition: the production of local content.

Amazon Prime Video has just announced the signing of a collaboration agreement with Nigerian director Jáde Osiberu and her production company Greoh Studios. The platform relies on the Nigerian to create original television series and feature films for its catalog.

Jade Osiberu directed the movie ‘Gang of Lagos’, Amazon Prime Video’s first original content, and the platform’s decision to partner with her for a longer term suggests the service appreciated her work. “I am delighted with this collaboration and I already feel like part of the Prime Video and Amazon Studios family. It will be an absolute pleasure to introduce the audience of the platform to the thrilling storylines that Nigeria has to offer. I look forward to continuing to help bring Nigerian stories to the world”said the director.

After signing deals with Anthill Studios of Nigeria and Inkblot Productions of Nigeria, this deal is the third signed by Amazon Prim Video with an African studio.

Gang of Lagos, available in a few weeks, will give an idea of the qualities that convinced Amazon Prime Video to collaborate more with Jade Osiberu.
