The price of Amazon’s premium membership, Amazon Prime, will skyrocket. Instead of the current 49 euros per year, it will now cost 69.90 euros annually, an increase of 40% of the subscription price. The monthly subscription will increase from 5.99 to 6.99 euros. We can note that in passing, Amazon has reduced the discount granted to those who subscribe for a year at once. Previously, they were entitled to a reduction of 30% compared to the price of a monthly subscription over twelve months. Now they only save about 17%. In an email to its subscribers, Amazon justifies this change with a “increased operating costs for Prime in France”i.e. an increase in the number of services and content offered. “Since we launched Prime in France, we have expanded the selection of products eligible for Prime unlimited fast delivery; added and expanded fast grocery delivery; and added more premium digital entertainment, including TV shows and movies on Prime Video, music on Amazon Music Prime, games on Prime Gaming and books on Prime Reading. Prime Video, in particular, has increased the number of Amazon Original series and films and added access to streaming the French Open tournament. » These new prices will be applied for any monthly or annual renewal after September 15th.
