Bethesda spoke with Elon Musk and SpaceX in preparation for Starfield’s release

Todd Howard said the Bethesda team met with billionaire Elon Musk and the folks at SpaceX to prepare for Starfield’s development. Although Skyrim is still on top to this day, despite being released in 2011, it’s safe to assume that many fans are now waiting for Bethesda to release their highly anticipated space RPG. Not only is it a fresh start for the fantastic titles and more modern takes on Fallout that the studio is known for, but it also represents the developer’s first brand new IP in a quarter of a century.

Given that Bethesda rose to fame through its Elder Scrolls series, many are likely to assume that the upcoming sci-fi title will feature something similar, just with deep space. However, Xbox’s Matt Booty says that Starfield will be more than just a Skyrim reskin. Either way, fans are excited to see what hard work the Maryland-based developer has been up to. Given that Starfield is based on sci-fi, it only seems fitting for the team to seek advice, and that’s what Howard recently discussed.

A recent interview with Howard revealed that Bethesda met with SpaceX and its CEO Elon Musk to learn from his expertise in developing Starfield. The Elder Scrolls director and executive producer said he was “horrified” by what he saw at the spacecraft manufacturer’s premises, adding that it was like “Avengers meets NASA”. It seems pretty obvious from the video that Howard was blown away by what was shown to the team and what he learned himself. Although he goes on to admit that he doesn’t understand the behind-the-scenes approaches to spaceflight, it’s clear that the visit at least partially inspired Starfield. The discussion begins around 1:07:00.

Speaking of, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has been making waves since taking over Twitter, with the first acquisition beginning in April 2022 and ending at the end of October. Musk himself has spoken about his love of video games in the past, so it’s no surprise that he’s open to meeting with Bethesda in preparation for an upcoming space RPG.

Starfield is said to have over 1,000 planets, likely making it the studio’s biggest game to date. Unfortunately, there is no indication of when it will actually be released. The current proposed launch window is in the first half of 2023.
