Sofia Karkadym’s stay in the UK left her with a bitter taste. The 22-year-old, who fled Lviv in western Ukraine shortly after the Russian invasion, arrived in Bradford in May. She had found a foster family through Opora, a British NGO. Very quickly I realized that the couple I was staying with had problems , she says. The wife went on to accuse her husband, a 30-year-old security guard, of cheating on her with Sofia.
Ten days after her arrival, Sofia decided to pack her bags and leave. Against all expectations, the man would follow her. “We moved in together and little by little we formed a relationship”, says this manager in a computer company.
