King Charles III wants to prevent Harry and Andrew from taking his place

Another decision that should get people talking across the channel. King Charles III is changing British law. The goal ? Prevent Princes Harry and Andrew, who have retired from the royal family, from appearing for him when he is ill or abroad.

According to a 1937 law, the monarch can be replaced for certain tasks, such as signing official documents during his absence, by his husband or wife and by the first four adults in the line of succession.

A change to the law is planned “in the coming weeks”

For Charles, they are Queen Consort Camilla, her sons William and Harry, her brother Andrew and her niece Beatrice. But Harry distanced himself from the royal family and settled in the US with his wife Meghan Markle. Prince Andrew was stripped of any role following allegations of sexual abuse.

According to several media, the list of people who can replace him should be expanded to include Princess Anne and Prince Edward, sister and brother of Charles III. This fix makes it possible to not use Harry and Andrew without formally banning them.

According to the Telegraph, a law change could take place “in the coming weeks” and is “a logical step” ahead of Charles and Camilla’s planned overseas trips in 2023.
