Mattel to Launch Replica SpaceX Rockets in Matchbox Collection


Elon Musk companies are notorious for not spending a lot of money on marketing, relying instead on the enormous popularity of their founder. However, SpaceX has decided to embark on the merchandising with Mattel.

The toymaker announced this week that it will begin marketing Matchbox toys. inspired by SpaceX from next year. For decades, Matchbox has been making toy versions of all kinds of iconic vehicles, from tractors to military fighter jets to race cars.

The deal between the two companies spans several years, but details of upcoming toys have yet to be announced. ”

Matchbox has created space-themed collections in the past, including the US Space Shuttle and NASA’s Rocket Transport Vehicle. Hot Wheels, another brand from the Mattel universe, produced miniatures of the Curiosity and Perseverance Mars rovers.

In 2018, Hot Wheels released a plastic model of Elon Musk’s cherry red Tesla Roadster that was sent into space as part of the first demonstration launch of a Falcon Heavy rocket.

Matchbox’s SpaceX collection will arrive in 2023.
