LThe Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday accused London of being involved in the September explosions that caused leaks on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea, built to transport Russian gas to Europe. “Representatives of a British naval unit were involved in the planning, supply and execution of the terrorist act in the Baltic Sea on September 26 to undermine the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram.

On Twitter, British Defense rejected the allegations, condemning “false claims” by Russia which seek to “divert attention”. “To distract from its disastrous handling of the illegal invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry is resorting to peddling false claims on an epic scale. This fabricated story says more about discussions within the Russian government than it does about the West,” the Defense Ministry wrote.

The “most massive” drone strike of the conflict

The Russian Navy has repelled a drone strike in Sevastopol Bay against the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the governor of this city on the annexed Crimean peninsula has said. “Ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet are pushing a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) back into Sevastopol Bay,” Mikhail Razvojayev said. “No facilities in the city were affected. The situation is under control,” he added.

The Russian military has blamed Ukraine and Britain for the massive drone strike targeting its navy, which caused “minor damage” to one of the vessels. “The preparation of this terrorist act and the training of the military personnel of the 73e The Ukrainian Center for Special Maritime Operations was carried out by British specialists based in Ochakov, in the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram. These ships participated in the protection of convoys responsible for the export of Ukrainian grain, according to Moscow.

Russia has also announced that it intends to raise the issue with the UN Security Council about the drone strike that targeted Sevastopol Bay and the explosions that damaged the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. “The Russian side intends to draw the attention of the international community, including through the UN Security Council, to the series of terrorist attacks committed against Russia in the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea, including with the ‘involvement of Great Britain,'” spokeswoman for Russian diplomacy Maria Zakharova said on Telegram.

Russia, which launched an offensive in Ukraine on February 24, annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea (south) in 2014. This announcement comes as Ukrainian forces have launched a counter-offensive to regain ground in the south of the country. On Thursday, Mikhail Razvojayev announced that the Balaklava thermal power plant had been hit by a drone strike, which had not caused major damage or losses.

In August, he reported a drone attack on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol that caused no injuries, the second in less than a month. On 31 July, a drone landed in the courtyard of the navy’s headquarters, injuring five of its employees and causing the cancellation of all planned Russian Navy Day celebrations celebrated that day. Accused by Russia of being behind this attack, Ukraine then denied its involvement, calling these accusations “provocation”.
