We are already half way through October and it seems that there has been a break in this back to school period. PlayStation Showcase and its PS5 announcements postponed?
Very soon, Sony and PlayStation will be able to blow the second anniversary candle together of their latest console, PS5. At the time of the launch and to promote its brand new machine, the Japanese company had planned a massive event that could make every gamer on the planet drool. This back-to-school meeting seemed important to the company, so much so that it had covered in September 2021, where we had been able to witness masterful announcements such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Wolverine or, God of War: Ragnarok ! In short, a very important niche that boosted hype for the coming months and years, and which we thought would be elevated to tradition on the part of the manufacturer. And still…
In the middle of the summer, when the Summer Game Fest period had just closed and Gamescom was reaching us more and more, the rumors about this famous PlayStation Showcase had started to spread. At the time, we felt that something was going on behind the scenes, but it was hard to put our finger on it exactly.. And for good reason, the exact date, or at least the broadcast period, was still very vague: to compensate, rumor had it that the advertising schedule couldn’t be more enticing. It’s not until the end of August that one date seemed to stand out. But in the meantime we have had no more news and this event has escaped our minds a little. This must have suited Sony well, as the manufacturer may simply have decided to draw a line under it, especially because of its direct competitor: Microsoft!
The investigation into Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard-King is at the heart of the problem!
For a few weeks now, Sony and Microsoft have been a bit like cat and dog and accumulate disputes and other settlement of accounts through the media. The reason for their conflict? The process of taking over the huge American publisher Activision-Blizzard-King, as the Japanese company doesn’t look very good. Thus, in order to protect its back, Sony is currently trying not to incur the wrath of regulators who are monitoring the various stages of Microsoft’s acquisition of the American publisher. Therefore, who says to keep a low profile, says not to organize big events filled with big announcements.
The ongoing CMA investigation into the MS acquisition of AB has actually delayed any Showcase plans for Sony. Exclusive titles and first-party IP were ‘locked in’. Sony believes that a showcase will add weight to MS’s arguments. Silent Hill & Kojima Who Am I reveals were part of the show.

In this tense period between the two manufacturers, it is Sony that will avoid at all costs offering solid arguments on a plate to Microsoft as part of the validation of the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard-King. According to insider Millie A, on October 11 Sony should have announced the holding of a PlayStation Showcase on October 20 this week. But still according to her, the company would consider not organizing it this month, nor during the period when the CMA investigation into Microsoft’s planned acquisition is underway.. PlayStation fans will therefore have to be patient to discover the surprises that Sony has made!
