(ETX Daily Up) – On the occasion of its Ignite 2022 conference, dedicated to innovation, Microsoft unveiled various projects and several screenshots made an impression. These actually present an environment, under Windows, very different from what we currently know. An interface reminiscent of the one in macOS!
What if Microsoft had just revealed the first image of its next version of Windows, codenamed “Next Valley”? In the middle of his presentation, the American manufacturer revealed a stunning image of an advanced Windows interface, including a floating taskbar at the bottom of the screen, a floating search area also at the top of the screen and the weather on the far left.
The Windows Central site provided these images, and it’s difficult naturally to know if it is a leak (voluntary or not) of Windows 12. The challenge for Microsoft in any case in the future will be to offer an interface optimized for touch screens, so that its operating system is as easy to use via a mouse as with a finger on the screen, on a computer, a 2-in-1 hybrid or a tablet. We’ll still have to wait a bit to get to the bottom of it, Windows 12 shouldn’t be released until 2024 at best.
This “inspiration” may not be accidental, however, at a time when Apple has never sold so many computers. In the last quarter, global sales of Macs exceeded 10 million copies, according to the firm IDC, a performance of 40% over a year, while the market has fallen by 15% in the same period. This decline affects absolutely every other PC manufacturer. It must be said that by assembling its own chips, Apple has succeeded in producing more computers in recent months, while competitors have had to face a shortage of components. On the other hand, the general price increase creates a smaller historical gap, at the top of the range, between conventional PCs and computers from the Apple brand.
