While we still don’t know the exact release date for Starfield, a recent interview with a senior Microsoft employee indicated that yes, it will be released sometime after Redfall. Bethesda’s RPG and Arkane’s new shooter were simultaneously delayed earlier this year, with release dates yet to be confirmed for both.
This comes from Xbox Game Studios interview manager Matt Booty, who spoke on the Friends Per Second podcast and explained how Bethesda and director Todd Howard aren’t just making “Skyrim in space” with Starfield, but rather are shooting for something more.
“Having had a chance over the last year and a half to spend more time with Todd Howard and see how he works and see what he brings to game design, I’m sure he’s not going to stand still on what was built before.”
” It is not [Howard’s] approach to go in and resume something, right? So there’s going to be a lot of things going forward with this game, just from my point of view. […] what excites me first is the visual style.
Booty also confirms that Redfall will release before Starfield, likely indicating that the Bethesda RPG will release around May/June, as Booty said that Microsoft will “look at the schedule” after Redfall when Starfield comes out. You can find Booty’s response to Starfield in the video below (at 1:25:30).
While it’s still a long way from release, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about Starfield, like how the Starfield Reddit looked at the features and thinks we might be “killing” our in-game parents when we remove the relevant trait , or what the fan-favorite Elder Scrolls NPC looks like returning to the space RPG.
We also recently did a Starfield interview with a former Bethesda developer who talked about universal development, building a whole new game universe, and how the team is suited to both.
If you want preliminary Starfield guides, we’ve broken down some of what we already know about the game, such as a Starfield Traits Guide, Crimson Fleet Faction Guide, and Constellation Faction Guide.
