The Boys is a series that regularly creates controversy for its episodes with bloody or sexual scenes. But this time it is some of his fans who have exceeded the limits of reason. And even far beyond. Since the start of the Prime Video saga in 2019, Erin Moriarty and his character Starlight have been targeted by some of The Boys’ followers, with misogynistic remarks.
To the point that a fan of the series wrote a forum on the web, entitled #IStandWithStarlight, which denounces this misogyny and the attacks suffered by the actress on the networks. An article that evokes harassment against Erin Moriarty, which the star of The Boys confirms in a post on Instagram. In her message, she admits to being tired and feeling “helpless and dehumanized.”
“I feel paralyzed by it all. I put blood, sweat and tears into this role (again and again and again), I grew into this character. Because we change and evolve mentally AND physically. So this breaks my heart. I open my veins for this role and I find myself facing a misogynistic trolling which is exactly what Annie stands against…“
Erin Moriarty concludes by assuring that these attacks only “strengthen my empathy with those who attack me: I see you, I don’t hate you, I sympathize and I forgive you.”
This sublime speech by the actress caused her colleagues and friends in the series to react, and in particular her favorite play partners. Antony Starr, aka Homelander, explains the “support and subscribe 100% to what is said. Eric, your work on the show is stellar and you are beautiful inside and out. keep on shining.” For his part, Jack Quaid (Hughie) launches: “I love you Erin. We are all here for you. You are an incredible and talented force of nature. Leave the trolls to us. We support you.“
