Game news The Elder Scrolls 6, a large-scale game? Not for Microsoft
The Elder Scrolls VI is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games, even though we don’t know much about it. While waiting for a concrete reveal, Microsoft estimates that it will be a “medium-sized” game.
Some time ago, Microsoft bought Bethesda for a hell of a lot of money, and in the process regains prestigious franchises like Fallout, Doom or The Elder Scrolls. The sixth part is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated projects, but unfortunately we don’t know much about it: only a sparse video teaser was revealed during E3 2018 … but no more. And in addition, there are still several years of development to be expected.
While waiting for a real spotlight – Starfield must be released first! – it is Microsoft that provides a detail that is very important: in its dossier to convince the UK competition authority to validate the takeover of Activision-Blizzard, the company admits that The Elder Scrolls VI could very well be a Microsoft exclusive… as it will be a game “of the size means “. And that it should therefore not interfere too much with its rivals, Sony at the top of the list.
The battle rages on
Once again, this mention comes in the context of the purchase of Activision-Blizzard. Before it is validated, Microsoft must have the green light from the various governments, which must be sure that the takeover does not work against the market and existing players.
The Redmond company is therefore at odds with Sony (which is doing everything to ensure that the merger does not take place, unsurprisingly): it recently admitted that the PlayStation exclusives were better than their own, that Sony was the market leader and therefore , that The Elder Scrolls VI will only be a “medium” game, so there’s nothing to worry about if it’s an exclusive.
Do you think The Elder Scrolls VI will really be a mid-range title? Or that Microsoft does not hesitate to come up with different arguments to seduce the various regulatory authorities at all costs?
