The population of Neuchâtel is in the process of refusing the initiative for compulsory dental insurance, which would cover basic care and periodic check-ups. After counting in 26 municipalities out of 27, the electorate said no to 64.88%.
The results for the city of Neuchâtel are not yet known. The initiative, filed in 2015, called for mandatory dental insurance to be funded by a 1% payroll deduction paid half by the employer and half by the employee. It was supported by left-wing political parties, trade unions and associations.
The text was opposed by the Council of State, the Grand Council, four right-wing parties, economic associations and dentists. The participation rate is currently 41.97%.
