UK cabbage crops ‘won’t stop growing’

Despite a dry summer and mild autumn, brassica crops in the UK are continuing to grow, according to crop managers.

While other crops were affected by changeable and difficult weather conditions, Riverford Organic Farm experienced bumper harvests. This applies, among other things, to cabbage, cauliflower, kale and leeks, which are unaffected by the weather and seem to thrive despite it. It appears that the “confusion” caused by the changing weather caused the brassicas to develop and ripen at the same time, which is called flushing.

British consumers are encouraged to consume locally grown produce that ripens at the same time as climatic conditions will change more and more often.
