The announcement was made this week by the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire: it’s almost the end of the little green sticker on the windshield, this famous vignette that we receive every year by post and which is completely impossible to cut. Vignette which is almost 40 years old, compulsory since September 9, 1986, under penalty of a PV of 35 €. It will soon be finished in April, no need to put it on the windshield.
A decision taken to reduce the financial and ecological impact since each year, no less than 50 million vignettes are printed by insurers, then sent by post. Bruno Le Maire hopes that this saving will be passed on to the amount of the next bonuses. The disappearance of this green card, we remind you, will be effective next April.
Be careful, the controls will not disappear, on the contrary, police and gendarmes can have direct access to the file of insured persons, which is fed by all insurance companies. Since 2019, the police can thus, during an inspection, check via this file that your vehicle is in good order, with a reliability much higher than the sticker. Example, if your insurance is interrupted during the year, you can very well continue to display this vignette on your windshield, not to mention the false vignettes circulating.
